Located at the end of the Rhuys peninsula on the town of Arzon, Port Navalo is an old fishing port.
Built in 1840, it is now a marina with 534 berths, linking the Gulf of Morbihan to the Atlantic Ocean.
The lighthouse, built in 1891 by engineers Frécot and Vauthier, makes it easy to find, and it’s particularly recommended for bad weather in Sud-Suroît, where it offers good shelter.
On site, several buildings bear witness to its past as a fishing port.
as the former terminus of the railway line that ran from Arzon to Vannes, passing through most of the villages on the Rhuys peninsula, and which has been disused since 1947. Today, it has been converted into a cinema.
The former fish auction has been converted into a ticket office for the various shipping companies that allow you to embark for Locmariaquer, Belle île, a tour of the Golfe du Morbihan and more…
You can also take the “Petit Mousse” walk, named after a drowned sailor who was found there in 1859 by an Arzon doctor. Unable to identify his body and without family, he was buried on the spot.
“Because of its location Port Navalo is a privileged place for sunsets and sailing competitions.”
Captain Bilou’s tip
For a beautiful sunset
Take the promenade that starts next to the pier. Walk for 2 minutes and you’ll have the pleasure of watching the sun set behind Locmariaquer.
The great regattas of Port Navalo
In August, take time out to see the Grandes régates de Port Navalo, organized every year since 1984 (the year the slipway was built), where you’ll see regattas of old boats like the Sinagots, sculling races and, on land, sea chanteys and Breton music. The ceremony concludes with a spectacular fireworks display from the harbor.
